Digital Learning objective repositories can be found throughout the internet. It is no surprise that e-learning is becoming the go-to format in education in today's society. One article states, "learning objectives are basically the essence of your online course's goal, as they describe what you want your learners to achieve after completing it (Pappas, 2015). In creating instruction, designers can use learning objectives in different formats such as animation, videos, slides, and other features to add to the lesson so that learners have different methods of obtaining the information. We will explore one site for these learning objectives repository, Hippocampus.org.





What Resources do Hippocampus.org Offer Learners and Educators?

Hippocampus.org provides a wide variety of digital learning objectives for learners and educators. Hippocampus.org aims to "deliver rich multimedia content--videos, animation, and simulations--on general education subjects to middle-school and high-school teachers and college professors, and their students, free of charge (Hippocampus - free help with your homework, n.d.). This site provides many educational videos that can be added to lessons in thirteen subject areas, including math, natural science, social science, and humanities. While this website shares many digital learning objectives that can be used in a classroom, there are some pros and cons that users must be aware of when using this site for content creation.





Pros to using Hippocampus.org




When using Hippocampus.org for content creation, educators can:




  1. Use videos that are provided within the subject area for free.

  2. Show detailed simulations of certain subject areas to engage the learners in the content.

  3. Use a variety of videos from multiple subject areas.

  4. Show videos with captions for all learners, including individuals with disabilities such as hard of hearing.

  5. Apply these videos to the curriculum for future use.

  6. Videos are short, from 1-4 minutes tops, allowing for follow-up activities.





Cons to using Hippocampus.org





When using Hippocampus.org, educators must be cautious of the following:




  1. All the information is shared through video only.

  2. There is no interactive activity to follow through with.

  3. Some videos have no captions available for individuals with disabilities.

  4. Can't maximize the video to full screen.

  5. Some of the video content is old and outdated.

  6. The site's organizations of videos and simulations are separated, causing confusion as to where to find these resources instead of sequencing materials.




Conclusion



While this site has many digital learning objective resources instructional designers or educators can use for building content material; users must know that these videos should be used as additional resources and not as a main course. This site provides excellent video content for pedagogy learners and should be used as an additional learning material to refer to when needed.
